Patras, Greece · Since 1999

We source it.
We roast it.
We serve it.

Born in Patras, Greece, in 1999, Coffee Island has spent more than 25 years exploring specialty coffee from bean to cup. Today our coffee is roasted in Patras and served across three continents.

What is Coffee Island

A holistic
coffee experience,
from bean to cup

Our journey starts with green coffee and continues through sourcing, roasting, grinding, brewing and serving. We work closely with coffee producers, roast at our facilities in Patras, and train our baristas to understand the coffees they prepare.

Under one roof, you will find two connected experiences: the Espresso & Brew Bar for coffee prepared for you, and the Coffee Shop for freshly ground coffee and Home Barista essentials to enjoy at home.

Coffee expertise

From Bean
to Cup

We believe in people. With respect, we offer high-quality products and services to our consumers. At the same time, we reward those who work for the coffee we deliver to the end consumer “From Bean To Cup”: farmers, employees at the headquarters, franchisees, baristas, and distributors.

We are committed to knowledge, innovation, and excellence in coffee. We are true explorers and invest heavily in knowledge and innovation, as they are the driving forces behind our success. That is why we are members of the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), and three members of our team hold the SCA Coffee Diploma Award. At Coffee Island, innovation is not just a concept or a promise, but the only way we tangibly return love, appreciation, and trust to coffee lovers.

Direct Trade

We believe in a fair way of conducting business. This means we support Direct Trade, the creation of mutually beneficial relationships with producers at some of the best coffee farms in the world. We believe that every activity we develop contributes to the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of the regions from which we source our coffee.

  1. 01

    Farming

Premium quality Arabica coffee beans are grown along the equator and each develops different aromatic and flavoring characteristics depending on the country of origin.

  2. 02

    Harvesting

Coffee fruits are carefully hand-picked by experienced people. When they are gathered, there is a second sort so that we can be sure that only the ripe fruits will be processed.

  3. 03

    Processing

The skin and flesh of the coffee fruit are removed using a peeling machine and then the green beans are washed, dried and sorted. Finally, they are packed in sacks and begin their journey to our facilities in Patras.

  4. 04

    Roasting

We’ve been roasting coffee for more than a decade and during all these years we’ve learned that roasting beans is as much an art as it is a science. We use our knowledge, experience, skills and love of coffee to give the beans their best flavor and aroma.

  5. 05

    Grinding

Consumers of our coffee shops have the option of choosing between Greek, espresso and filter coffee. Together we find the right degree of grinding depending on the extraction method they will use to achieve the best aromatic and taste result from coffee beans and at home.

  6. 06

    Extract

There are various extraction methods by which one can brew and enjoy their drink, some even favoring certain types of coffee and roasting.

Coffee Campus

Knowledge is
the driving force

At Coffee Island, we believe in knowledge as a driving force to provide the consumer, a unique coffee experience, and our goal is to train professional baristi - coffee makers, with whom we share the same passion for specialty coffee. A full glass of aromas and flavors of coffee “hides” a large chain of people working to provide a unique coffee experience to anyone who tastes it.

Part of this chain is Coffee Campus, the education department of the company, which transmits love, passion, dedication to specialty coffee. Coffee Campus instructors have both training and hands-on experience in the coffee field. The Coffee Campus team consists of Authorized SCA Trainers (ASTs), who have the highest distinction in the field of coffee and 7 Q graders.

Instructors inspire the baristi by acting as their role models and mentors. They also impart baristi with the knowledge and love of coffee, so that they can turn them into a unique coffee experience that they offer to our consumers on a daily basis.

There are four “schools” at Coffee Campus, each of which specializes in different areas of coffee. Quality School provides trainees with R&D knowledge and sensory skills, that is, how to judge a coffee based on its quality characteristics. At Grindery School they learn the coffee shop blends and varieties of coffee as well as brewing skills so they can extract your drink with different tools. At Roasting School, they acquire knowledge of green coffee, its cultivation, its processing, its sorting and are trained in roasting by our experienced roasters on state-of-the-art machines. Finally, at Barista School they are trained to deliver unique beverages, as they learn to have complete control over the equipment and factors that influence the taste.

Coffee Campus has 4 centers in Patras, Athens, Thessaloniki and Nicosia. Our schools are Lifelong Learning Centers and certified SCA Premier Training Campuses certified by the worldwide organization that promotes SCA quality coffee.
